Return to Work Sooner with Chiropractic for Sciatica

Low back pain and sciatica got you missing work? A new study suggests that chiropractic care can speed your recovery from sciatic pain after work injury.

Sciatica results from irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve, the largest nerve in the human body. Compression of the sciatic nerve causes pain, numbness, and tingling along the pathway of the sciatic nerve in the low back, buttocks, and back of the leg. It's estimated that up 43% of adults have suffered from sciatica at some point in their lives, and resulting in a significant loss of productivity.

Researchers from Norway evaluated the effects of chiropractic care in treating 44 workers hospitalized with severe sciatica pain. The workers received a combination of treatments similar to what we offer our Estero patients, including chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, and ice treatments.

Within 21 days, 91% of patients had returned to work full time. Two patients were working at 80% capacity, and one patient was working at a 50% capacity.

Typically, workers with severe sciatica are disabled for an average of 72 days. That means chiropractors reduced disability days by 71% for patients in this study!

This is simply one study demonstrating the effectiveness of chiropractic care for sciatica and low-back pain. Our Estero chiropractors have helped thousands of patients recover from back pain and sciatica. At Chiropractic Care and Rehab, we strive to get back to work as quickly and as safely as possible.

Earlier studies have suggested that chiropractic can also alleviate another common cause of sciatica, disc herniation.
